About The Red Brick Hotel

History of Burke’s Hotel
Burke’s Hotel, originally built in 1890 for Thomas Burke, has a rich history. Burke owned and operated the hotel until 1899, after which it changed hands several times. In the 1980s, the hotel was renamed in his honor, retaining much of its original architecture, which remains substantially intact for a nineteenth-century establishment.

The Redbrick
The hotel later adopted the name Redbrick, not due to its exterior, but because of the red 10-pound notes—referred to as ‘bricks’—used by bookies in the public bar when settling bets.
