About The Morrison Hotel
The Morrison Hotel has a rich history that dates back to its origins as the Hotel Britannia. After the original Britannia was destroyed by fire, the Morrison Hotel we know today was constructed.
Early Beginnings
The Britannia Hotel was established following the demolition of the first hotel on the site, the Duke of Cornwall, built by Mr. Allan, a police magistrate. This area was then known as One Mile Swamp. The Britannia was notable for its innovative construction, featuring a floating foundation made of 3 feet thick concrete and handmade bricks.
Transition to Morrison Hotel
In 1927, K & W Morrison acquired the lease of the Britannia and later purchased the freehold in 1925. The Britannia was the first hotel in Brisbane to serve beer using gas pressure from the cellar. When Stanley Street was widened, Mr. Morrison exchanged his property for a smaller plot one block away, where he built the current Morrison Hotel.
After a series of licensees, the hotel was purchased by MGW in 2002, which later merged into the ALH Group. Since then, the Morrison Hotel has built a reputation as one of Brisbane's best steakhouses, known as Fiasco’s Steakhouse, and a popular whisky and cocktail bar, Circa27.
The Morrison Hotel continues to serve locals and visitors alike, maintaining its status as a beloved establishment in Brisbane's vibrant hospitality scene
